CNN —It’s finally here – the 96th Academy Awards are about to be underway at the Dolby Theater in the heart of Hollywood. The telecast is starting at the new time of 7 p.m. Live Updates: The live Oscars telecast will start one hour earlier than in past yearsLeading with 13 nominations, the historical drama “Oppenheimer” is widely seen as the favorite to win best picture, best actor for Cillian Murphy and best director for Christopher Nolan. CNN —Bobi the dog, who died last year reportedly at the age of 31, has been stripped of the world’s oldest ever dog title following a review by Guinness World Records (GWR), the organization announced Thursday. Bobi, a Rafeiro do Alentejo, had been known as the world’s oldest dog until he provisionally lost his title in January pending the result of a GWR investigation. For now, it is not clear who holds the title of oldest dog ever. “We’re not yet in a position to confirm a new holder for the record, although we certainly hope that the publicity around the record title encourages pet owners from around the world to get in touch,” said McKinley. Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo – a breed of livestock guardian dog – according to his owner.

CNN —The nominees for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards have been announced, with “Oppenheimer” leading the charge with 13 nominations. There were few surprises from the British Academy, with strong awards season favorites faring well, including Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” with 11 nominations and Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” with nine. Standing out from the crowd was “The Zone of Interest,” Jonathan Glazer’s unique film about the Holocaust, which achieved nine nominations. “Barbie” received nods in five categories, including Margot Robbie for best actress, but did not land a best picture nomination. CNN —The world’s “oldest ever dog” Bobi, who died in October reportedly aged 31, has provisionally lost his title as Guinness World Records (GWR) investigates his age, a spokesperson for the company told CNN on Tuesday. “While our review is ongoing we have decided to temporarily pause both the record titles for oldest dog living & ever just until all of our findings are in place,” the spokesperson said. Bobi’s advanced age was remarkable: Dogs of his breed normally live 12 to 14 years. And although there are many exceptions, smaller dogs in general live longer than midsize ones, who live longer than the largest. It noted that while Bobi had been registered on a Portuguese government database, his listed age was based entirely on the owner’s say-so. Questions were also raised because the dog appeared to be overweight in photos, not a good sign for extreme longevity. It said that while the timeline could vary, it sought to keep such investigations to three or fewer months.

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — A 31-year-old dog in Portugal that had been ranked as the world’s oldest dog ever has died, his owner said Monday. The guard dog, called Bobi, died over the weekend in a veterinary hospital, Leonel Costa told The Associated Press. Bobi lived on a farm in the village of Conqueiros in Portugal with Costa and four cats. That made Bobi more than 217 years old in dog years when he died. In an interview earlier this year, Costa told the Associated Press that Bobi's secret to a long life was good food, fresh air and lots of love.

CNN —Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine was arrested at Entebbe International Airport near the capital Kampala on Thursday as he returned to the country, according to his party the National Unity Platform. The National Unity Platform (NUP) said in a social media post that Wine was “violently arrested upon his return to Uganda. Opposition frontrunnerWine, a popstar-turned-politician whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, was the main opposition frontrunner in the presidential elections in January 2021 and lost to President Yoweri Museveni. Wine rejected the election results, saying he had evidence of fraud and intimidation. “The Security Agencies will take all necessary measures to ensure that individuals involved in illegal activities are arrested and brought before the courts of law.”

CNN —The world’s oldest dog is living it up in his 30s. Bobi, a Portuguese pooch who was declared the world’s oldest dog by Guinness World Records in February, celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday, according to a news release from Guinness. Costa told Guinness that Bobi has been enjoying a lot of attention since being crowned the world’s oldest dog. “It wasn’t easy for him.”Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of Portuguese dog trained to guard livestock, according to his owner. In addition to being the oldest dog currently living, Bobi is also the oldest dog ever recorded, according to Guinness.

Little did he know that his beloved Bobi would one day be recorded as the world's oldest dog. Costa got in touch with the Guinness World of Records, submitted all the paperwork and a year later Bobi was officially named the oldest dog on record. Costa hopes Bobi has many more years of life and is thankful the dog has put the remote village of Conqueiros on the map.
